Regarding the Ron & Hope Carpenter Issue the thoughts below should be considered Filip Vd Eynde • 2 hours ago − You know Lee; I tend to like your articles but what worries me in this one is not this particular issue amongst a man and a woman but the continual shallowness, denial and naivety amongst many believers. Many believers, especially in evangelical and pentecostal circles, have been blinded by years of doctrinal garbage. Doctrines of excess and superstardom. And when people fall from their chairs; such as the Carpenters; we all look surprised and immediately start prayer sessions. Not necessarily because we care so much about Ron and his soon to be ex wife. In all reality; few really do. No; we care about the idea of success. We dont want to loose the idea. We need our pastors to be superstars that are larger than life. It gives us hope that hopefully one day we could be successful too. And most of it is a lie. We have to get rid of superstar christianity. Look at the Hinns, the Longs, the McClendons, the Carpenters and many more religious superstars. I am not judging them as persons, every marriage has its issues. But I am raising the question and do draw awareness that something is seriously wrong with the overall American church culture. We elevate mere men and women to superstar status and overload them with luxury and lavish lifestyles all based on questionable doctrines. Many of which are American culture and have nothing to do with the bible. Simply because many christians do not want the responsibility of living the life. I lost my naivety after my former pastor informed us all his wife of 25 years left. And because she left; and he was free; God told him to marry another girl. The truth was he cheated on her with another girl; that is why his wife left... Again; nothing personal but why all these lies? Why projecting the images? Why is it hard for leaders to admit they sinned? Why does it take 10 years to come out with problems? What is wrong with admitting; hey guys; I dont love my wife anymore because some young bird captured my heart. What is wrong with speaking the truth? And most of all; why do many leaders go to such and extend that in the midst of problems and issues; they will continue ministering? My issue is the message that is brought coming from leaders; marriages break down; infidelity; drug problems, domestic abuse… name it; yet nothing seems to matter; nothing seems to stop them from continuing the ministry. The show must go on… money must roll… The Las Vegas gospel. What makes ministry such an addiction?
