Regardless of the degree or type of violence a domestic violence victim/survivor experiences, it is never easy to leave an abusive relationship. Since the release of the Ray Rice video, we have noticed a lot of victim-blaming around Janay Palmers decision to stay with Rice, and we think it is important to talk about it. Questions like why did she stay or why hasnt she left, can minimize any victim/survivors experience. Moreover, by telling a victim/survivor to take a certain course of action, their power to make their own decisions, and have those decisions respected, is also being taken away--just as it is in an abusive relationship.
