Regime Rhetoric Must be Tested - CID/HQ/PEP/128/2010 - DPP2011096 In the coming months, specific case file which unitll now has been shelved by executive interference will brought to the attention of the Accountability Commission with copies to all political party leaders and other stakeholders who would be interested in the actual independent functioning of the Commission. All those who have been seeking refuge under regime for serious financial crimes and fraud will have complaints against them (suppressed by authorities until now) enlisted with the Accountability Commission. Time to be tested for big talks coming soon. Constitution establishes an Accountability and Transparency Commission 14:18 Today Taken from/By: FBC Report by: Akosita Talei Businesses have been encouraged to step up to government’s commitment of setting higher standards of propriety and accountability. For the first time, the new constitution has established an Accountability and Transparency Commission to cover all public office holders. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says businesses will also be subjected to a new Code of Conduct and will be strict in its enforcement. We want that same transparency and accountability in the private sector. That means an end to the shady deal, the nod and a wink, the “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” mentality that has long been a feature of too much of Fijian commercial life. Ladies and Gentlemen, we must stop these practices. Bainimarama says it will not end here as other reforms will soon be implemented. There is still too much corruption, too much tax evasion, too much waste. Business still labors under far too much red tape. Some of our trade unionists still haven’t grasped the reality of 21st century labor relations. We must all work together to increase productivity, reduce inefficiency and provide the investment climate in which real jobs are created and sustained. Bainimarama says there is a projected economic growth for Fiji that will be the highest ever experienced which clearly shows a new wave of optimism about the economic prospects of the policies of the government.
