Regressions/progressions etc... Compartmentalise exercise - TopicsExpress

Regressions/progressions etc... Compartmentalise exercise selection has. Lead to a lack an important element: anatomy Example a squat regression being that of a split squat, well sure if the issue may be restricted adductor (especially Magnus function as an extensor) but a big NO if the issue is restriction of the distal fibres of the rectus femoris or poor glute max recruitment. Look into the big picture 1. What plan is the joint(s) moving through 2. Where is the deviation in correlation to control of the centre of mass in respect to the force imposed 3. Is restriction due to weakness or simply mobility? If its mobility STRETCH!!!!! Stretching is not detrimental if it relaxes a muscle thats facilitating an inhibition! Uf its weakness look to exercise selection that will recruit joint angle of that muscle in correlation to the respected moment arm. Remember however squats are one exercise of many that can aid the entire body development, however if your anatomical position only permits overuse of connective tissue in a movement then its not for you. Moral of the rant: understand movement not exercise
