Remember your Drill? Army Drill Sergeants Compete at Fort Jackson! FORT JACKSON, S.C. — The Army’s top drill sergeants are competing at Fort Jackson to see who can out-drill, out-teach and outlast their fellow command barkers and capture the Drill Sergeant of the Year award. Army spokesman Pat Jones said the service’s top six drill sergeants are enduring physical and mental challenges in the competition Monday and Tuesday. The drill sergeants are tested on combat tasks and battle drills and also how well they impart their knowledge to soldiers. The award will be announced Wednesday. In 2005, the Pentagon ordered the Army to consolidate all its schools for the senior-level sergeants at Fort Jackson, the Army’s largest training installation located outside Columbia. About 50,000 soldiers are trained at the installation every year. Courtesy of the Army Times
