Reminder! This Saturday, October 4th, 9:00am-11:00am, . DURHAM MARCHES TOGETHER. Join us for a Unity March that celebrates Durham, North Carolinas history and progress on civil rights. We will march from the Durham Main Library, 300 North Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27701 to the new Civil Rights Mural, which is located beside the Durham Arts Council. The mural depicts scenes of Durham’s involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. A short Rally will welcome long-time civil rights activist CONGRESSMAN JOHN LEWIS and his co-author ANDRES AYDIN of their book March-Book One and kick off Durham Reads Together. Free and open to the public. A MESSAGE TO OUR JEWISH PATRONS Dear Patrons: When scheduling the Durham Reads Together kickoff events, we missed that Saturday, Oct. 4 is Yom Kippur. It was not until after the schedule was firm and the publicity was out that we realized our error. We began planning last year for Durham Reads Together to take place during the month of September or October. We were highly restricted based on Congressman Lewis’ availability. Still, had we realized we were scheduling the kickoff on a major holiday, we would have moved DRT to avoid the conflict. Please accept our apologies for this oversight. We have incorporated a calendar of major religious holidays into our planning process to ensure we do not make this mistake again.
