Rep. Bob Behning introduced this (ALEC inspired) bill in the 2011 - TopicsExpress

Rep. Bob Behning introduced this (ALEC inspired) bill in the 2011 long session. It, thankfully, failed to pass. Most of us remember the first part, the appointment of the state superintendent by the governor, instead of it being an elected office. The second point is puzzling, as is the third. There is also language in this bill that seems to increase the superintendent’s use of the “gateway technology.” It is unclear where these last three points would lead, but knowing Rep. Behning’s single-mindedness in destroying public education, this bill would have been devastating to public education. Rep. Behning has another legislative session to re-introduce this, and other ALEC inspired bills beginning in January, 2014. WE CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE MAY ELECTION to stop him. The damage he can do (and will attempt to do) in the 2014 session may be irreparable.
