Reviews Attack on Titan 7 and 8 7 – One of our characters gets bad news and goes from leading a charge with an ass-kicking inspirational speech to plummeting because of their recklessness. I loved the development this character got so far as taking what we had in episode 6 and expanding on it. I loved how they managed to balance both an appropriate amount of grief and trauma with a sense that they refuse to die and having a reason to live which is powerful. And we also get a strange titan which shows behavior we haven’t seen before and we’ve seen some weird shit from these things. I absolutely loved this episode too for glimmers of Armin taking charge instead of being a whiny baby. 8 – And more of it shows up here as Armin plans, sets up, and executes a plan to save the survivors of the guard. The episode is perfectly paced without any slow or useless moments. If I had to ding it, they clearly put so much into the major action scenes that they were forced to rely on still shots for some glaringly obvious moments. Something that can be fixed in a DVD or Blu-ray release and I hope it is because everything else looks like the animators pulled painful all-nighters to get through and spared no expense. Considering the team is already pretty beat by the task, I hope that the energy still manages to keep up. It’s a great series showcasing some of the greatest animation ever seen in a weekly series with this length. Considering it is also one of the highest-selling preorders in Japan for the video release…I can only hope good things come from here on out. The ending was also a shocker which raises so many questions about the nature of the titans and where the show goes from here.
