Rizzos editorial 7/11/2014 1979 1979 was a magical year. For one, I was constructed that year. The family (Pittsburgh Pirates) won the World Series on their bumble bee uninforms, rap was born (The Sugarhill Gangs Rappers Delight), and the disco vs. rock war wages on. Both genres producing hits and socking it to each other. Television couldnt have been any better, as Threes Company blazed on and even had landlord changes. Sure, we saw the end of Whats Happening! and Welcome Back, Kotter, but Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley kept on keeping on. Not to mention Bob Barker had brown hair. Wow, right? And he was as gangsta with the ladies as ever, probably more so since he wasnt old as hell. Lol. I love the 70s and almost think I was born in the wrong era. 1979 was the last year Afros were cool before the year of my birth, 1980, have birth to the Jeri Curl. No year has ever touched history like 1979. I wish I was there to have driven a Pinto with an 8 track, big ass Afro, leisure suit, and Taco Bell that used real food, but such is life.
