Robin Roberts from American News Broadcast Good Morning America was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer in 2008. She had extensive Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy to save her life and was pronounced in remission. Then in 2012, she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a disease of the bone marrow or pre-leukaemia. This is exactly what I have and it was caused by the first set of treatments for Robins breast cancer, mine caused by my treatments for Lymphoma. Robins sister was a bone marrow match for her and she was saved by a bone marrow transplant using her sisters stem cells/bone marrow. However, only 1/3 of those requiring a bone marrow transplant have a matching sibling. Like myself, I need the bone marrow from an unrelated marrow donor. Out of a world population of 7 billion people, only 9,000 unrelated bone marrow transplants are performed each year around the world. In this video: Patient Erika Turner found out one day that she had Leukaemia and needed a strangers bone marrow to stay alive. Watch as she meets her donor for the very first time, featured on Good Morning America on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. https://youtube/watch?v=QVRBP2KF-EQ
