(1979) p.223 Unforgiveness can rot your soul, destroy the cells of your body, jam up your relationships, and stop the flow of prosperity in your financial affairs. When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that bondage and get free. You must forgive if you want to demonstrate over your difficulties and make any real progress in life. The word “forgive” simply means “to give up.” Often the greatest way to forgive people is to give them up: first in your thinking, then from your life. Setting others free means setting yourself free. The practice of forgiveness also sets free your good and brings it to you in countless ways. (My two cents: When we forgive someone for attacking us or those we love, it is for the sake of preserving our own hearts for God’s purpose. Jesus is a role model in this regard. By saying to Satan, “get thee behind me,” [Matt. 23:16] Jesus does not give Satan any play or attention. Jesus did not waste a nano-second on Satan, and stayed focused on God’s promises in all things so as to shed fear and make manifest the hope of our faith in all circumstances.)
