Ross: Every night the national news focuses on the politics of the immigration issue for the children from Central America. There is very little about the reasons for the influx, i.e. highest murder rate in the world in Honduras, the gang life etc. There is absolutely nothing about what you and your brother are doing for them. All coverage seems to be on the left - right gridlock, and the California people refusing entrance of any immigrants and not on the plight of the children themselves. As Yogi said, “This is deja vu all over again”. The Grapes of Wrath again. Woody Guthrie wrote, “This Land is Your Land” not as a patriotic song but as a protest because residents and governments including the police were refusing entry of dust bowl immigrants into California. Surely some of these children can meet the political asylum criteria. Having the godlike responsibility of choosing who stays and who goes is not a job I’d be looking for. I don’t have any answers, just compassion for the kids. I’d love to hear how you feel when I come up in the fall but I’ve got a feeling you and Eric will still be there.
