#SA #BushFire #Weather #News #Corp CFS kept busy by bushfires as extra bombers fly in Fire crews remain at an uncontrolled bushfire burning at Bangor in the Southern Flinders Ranges. The Country Fire Service (CFS) says a wind change that moved across the state tonight is affecting the direction of the blaze. The fire is moving in a westerly direction towards the towns of Napperby and Nelshaby. Emergency service chiefs and the weather bureau earlier released another joint warning about the threat from the extreme heat. Adelaides temperature climbed two degrees above forecast, reaching 43 degrees Celsius about 2:10pm, while it was even hotter in other spots. The blaze at Bangor is now in its fifteenth day. John Nairne from the Bureau of Meteorology says the wind change would not bring much temperature relief. We may not see it cool down for some time. Well see the wind come in. Itll take a little while for it to cool down, he said. The temperature is expected to be slightly tomorrow but will rise over the weekend. Mr Nairne says Adelaide has currently had seven days this month of 40C or above and is likely to record its eighth on Friday, a January feat last achieved in 1908. They set the record back then on West Terrace. They had 10 days at 40C or above, he said. The seasonal outlook shows that weve got probably more elevated temperatures during February. Marginally so. Probably close to normal summertime conditions. CFS crews holding their breaths The CFS says fires also burning near Cambrai and at the Billiat Conservation do not currently post a threat. Earlier, firebreaks were set up around the Billiatt fire, which has burnt about 84,000 hectares. The CFS has already brought two bushfires under control on the Lower Eyre Peninsula - one at Tumby Bay, the other at North Shields outside Port Lincoln. Extra firefighting aircraft have been called in from interstate with total fire bans current for all 15 districts. due to the catastrophic fire conditions in the South East and the threat from the Bangor fire. Rail services on track for heat-related reductions Rail services were scaled back during the heatwave a fortnight ago and Lino Di Lernia from the Transport Department says that could happen again. If we have two or more days in a row that have extreme heat, we will be implementing our heat policy which is essentially reducing the frequency in the peak period and doubling the size of our trains, he said. Theres a good chance we will be initiating that tomorrow. Peak-hour trains were delayed by half an hour on the Noarlunga line when a rock lodged in a switch. The line has only recently re-opened after an almost year-long refurbishment. Opposition Transport spokeswoman Vickie Chapman says the timing was particularly bad. Here we now have a service thats just limping along and on the opening day of school, one of the hottest days of the season, and weve got a service breakdown, she said.
