The Boat Launch area is open 7 days a week with snacks, drinks and tackle available. The Café is also open 6 days of the week from 9:00 – 3:00 so visitors can get some delicious food. The Main Rec is holding a monthly trout derby. The largest three trout weight in at the Main Rec get prizes. It $5 to enter the derby. Mt. Lassen planted 1,200 pounds of trout on April 17th. 10% were trophy sized trout. The water temp has been around 70 degrees at noon and the water elevation is at 305 ft. There is about 5 feet water clarity. Trout are being caught from the shoreline near the Main Recreation Area, Oaks the Pines. Boaters have been having the best luck at the Round Top, Sandy Point, and Scow Canyon. Chartreuse, Rainbow or Garlic Power-Bait for the Trout is the best. Fish your Power bait using a sliding sinker rig. If the bite slows try using inflated night crawlers to catch both trout and bass. The Broken-Back Fire-Tiger Rapala, Mepps, and Kastmasters are being used to catch trout on the troll. Throwing shad colored crank baits or spinners have been catching bass. Drop shotting roboworms off the points and rock has been killer for spotted bass. The Main rec, Scow canyon and boat launch being the better spots. Crappie and Blue gills are starting to show up at the boat launch area. Fishing using mini jigs or floating red worms on bobbers works the best. Limit is twenty five.
