SATURDAY, , October 26 Matthew 12:33-42. For the tree is known by its fruit. A teenager received his license after getting driving instructions from his older brother. He got in his car and picked up one of his friends after school. When they arrived at a red light, the new driver ran through it. His friend screamed, “Are you crazy? We can get killed.” The new driver exclaimed, “Don’t worry. My brother taught me what to do.” They continued running through red lights, and the anxiety in the passenger’s seat was palpable. When they came to a green light, the rookie driver decided to stop. His friend said, “Now that you are supposed to go, why did you stop?” The young driver responded, “I just wanted to make sure my brother was not passing by!” Jesus knew the Pharisees were not at all interested in pleasing God by keeping the law, but only in pleasing themselves by appearing holier than thou and more knowledgeable than the rest. The law of the gospel is a law of love. May nothing hinder us from fulfilling the true meaning of God’s law by living lives that are genuinely fruitful and loving.
