******SCAM ALERT******SCAM ALERT******SCAM ALERT****** The Wallington Police are receiving numerous complaints about people trying to phone scam our residents. Two of the most recent scams are the IRS Scam (as seen below) and accident scam. The accident scam works by calling the victim and stating that their loved one was in an accident. The victim usually panics and says who my .... and gives their name. Once the suspect has a name they will tell you that they are a gang and they are holding your loved one hostage and want money. Please do not panic, call your family member and confirm they are okay. If you can not get in touch with them contact the Police, in the town your loved one lives, to do a welfare check. You can also contact the Wallington Police and we will assist you. Wallington Police (973)473-1715. Please pay special attention to the bottom of the article titled the five things IRS would not do. Also, NEVER send a money order to IRS or someone claiming to need help in another country. Unless you personally know the person and can verify their identity it is probably a SCAM. Scammers will use what ever means necessary to get your hard earned cash. They will even claim to be family members or friends helping a family member. Please use precautions and do not get SCAMMED.
