SD Burman Salute to a Pure Genius ! Born 1 October 1906 Died 31 October 1975 (aged 69) What is there to say about SD Burman which has not been said ! A real Prince who gave up his kingdom for music ! While his competitors went for full symphonic orchestration , Sachin da kept is music simple with minimalistic instrumentations & straight forward compositions. He was the first Music composer who had many tunes ready for all moods of songs in Advance. Only lyricist had to word them. This technique shortened the song making by weeks ! Other music composers adopted this technique subsequently. He would wake his singers in the middle of night to ask their views on a particular tune or check their voice quality for a particular song ! Such was his sincerity towards his art. When Mr Burman approached His Masters Voice (HMV) in the 1930s, the recording company asked him to undergo an audition test. He, however, failed in the test. Sachin was informed that his nasal voice was not fit for recording and that the market would not accept it... He was shattered. But despite HMVs refusal, SD Burman would not be denied his rightful glory. He cultivated folk music and established it in the highest throne of the durbar of worlds music.
