SEAG Task Force ready: Published : Sunday, July 14, 2013 00:00 A P40-MILLION budget is what the Philippine Sports Commission will be working on to fund the country’s 300-strong delegation to the 27th Myanmar Southeast Asian Games in December. PSC Chairman Ricardo Garcia said the SEAG Task Force has already submitted to the Myanmar SEA Games Organizing Committee a maximum number of athletes on the 24 of the 39 events that the country is competing in. The Philippines will be competing in aquatics (diving and swimming), archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, billiards and snookers, boxing, chess, cycling, equestrian, golf, judo, karatedo, muay, pencak silat, rowing, sailing, windsurfing, sepak takraw, shooting, taekwondo, traditional boat race, wrestling and wushu. Garcia said the SEAG Task Force has already sent letters to all national sports associations (NSA) asking them on the number of entries that they plan to send to the biennial meet. “We will still meet with the NSAs since they still need to justify on the numbers that they submitted,” said Garcia, who just arrived on Sunday from Incheon, South Korea to attend the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games where the country bagged one gold and two bronze medals. “Before we send the final list of all the names of the athletes that will compete in Myanmar, we will scrutinize them and ask the NSAs their performances.” As of Monday, the SEAG Task Force has already a list of the probable number that the country will send to the biennial meet, totaling 241 from 180 athletes and 61 officials. “This number is not yet final. It can still swell to 300 or go down depending on the entry by name. The 61 officials are all working officials composed of nurses, doctors and members of the secretariat,” said Garcia. He added that the Philippine Olympic Committee and the SEAG Task Force sent a letter to all NSAs to submit their entry by numbers. But some NSAs, like football and swimming, have yet to inform the task force on their entry by number. Myanmar’s capital of Naypidaw will be the main hub of the December 11 to 22 games with Mandalay and Yangoon also hosting several events. During the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, dancesport produced the country’s lone gold medal courtesy of Gerald Jamili and Cherry Clarice Parcon in Latin’s jive dance. The pair also settled for the bronze in Latin’s five dances, while Rubilen Amit added another bronze in women’s billiards 10-ball singles. Elmer N.
