SEP 22 TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME GOSPEL COMMENTARY Lk 16,1-13 "If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours? No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon.” THESE WORDS FROM OUR LORD REINFORCE WHAT HE ALSO SAID ABOUT BEING SIMPLE AS DOVES BUT SHREWD AS SERPENTS. Since we cannot avoid dealing with temptations, sin and evil in this world, we have to learn how to cooperate materially, not formally, with them to be able to achieve the higher if not the ultimate good. This is a very tricky business that has to be mastered thoroughly by us now. O LORD, MAY OUR HEART ONLY BELONG TO YOU. MAY WE LEARN THROUGH YOUR GRACE, YOUR DOCTRINE AND EXAMPLE, AND OUR CORRESPONDING EFFORT, TO CRUISE IN THIS WORLD OF SIN AND EVIL TO BE WITH YOU NOW AND FOREVER. AMEN. usccb.org/bible/readings/092213.cfm
