SERVICE STRUCTURE FOR THE ENGINEERS OF PAKISTAN My dear Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) is a statutory organization established under the Act of Parliament in 1976 (PEC Act 1976) to regulate the entire engineering profession in Pakistan including quality of engineering education. Under PEC Act, the mandate given to PEC inter alia includes promotion of reforms in the engineering profession and safeguarding the interest of engineers, besides promotion of engineering profession in totality. The PEC has registered more than 160,000 engineers in 27 different disciplines who are playing pivotal role and have contributed in the landmark projects in almost all sectors of economic development in the country as well as abroad, earning good name for Pakistan. Presently over 90,000 engineers are working in the Government including public sector organizations and autonomous/ semi-autonomous bodies, as such the engineers of the country have a direct bearing on all the aspects of service structure of Pakistan both at Federal and Provincial levels. It is unfortunate that engineers of Pakistan have no Service Group and no service structure despite the fact that they are responsible for execution of development plans, maintenance of all essential services and to boosting of the economy of the country. PEC is working to formulate/ finalize a comprehensive service structure for engineers working in the Federal and Provincial Governments including under controlled departments and corporations.
