SHALL WE PRAY FOR A TEACHER TODAY? “God winked at me. I arrived at the LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL to help proctor a test. The school requests we BRING NOTHING with us, so I had no phone, no calendar, no book, no purse, nothing. My job was to sit and wait for any kid who had to use the bathroom. At first, I was antsy. I mean, when are any of us ever without something to attend to or a screen to stare at? The ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL stopped by to tell me that I COULD READ A BOOK if I wanted. I hadn’t brought one, so I asked if she had something. She said, “I have a book called When GOD Winks.” I wasn’t sure I’d heard her correctly. But, I used most of the next three hours to read your book. I liked the story of Kevin Costner comforting a grieving stranger in an airport, which led to the stranger meeting her husband. A couple things STOOD OUT: 1. DON’T BE too much IN AWE of successful people, but be willing to ASK FOR GUIDANCE. I admit that I have been too much in awe. 2. ACKNOWLEDGE your coincidences or, as you put it, GOD-WINKS.” Allison G. Snyder •••• As TEACHERS return to school along with all our kids, can we give them a VOTE of CONFIDENCE today? What important tasks they perform ... providing our children with INDELIBLE knowledge. Can we SAY A PRAYER for a teacher we know? Or for a school? As for me, I’m going to PRAY for Allison who sounds like a bright YOUNG TEACHER who has the same insecurities in life that we all face. I’m also going to PRAY for that ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL who isn’t intimidated by current culture, and keeps a book with the G-O-D word in it, at school. Wishes for winks SQ
