*SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS POSSIBLE* I am currently monitoring the increasing potential for the development of a major, travel-disrupting, Nor’easter Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon for the eastern half of the region. While nothing is currently set in stone, there is an increasing possibility for accumulating snow along the heavily populated I-95 corridor from Baltimore, M.D. through Boston, MA this upcoming Wednesday night into Thursday morning. A piece of energy diving south from Canada may interact with a piece of energy over the Gulf of Mexico riding along an incoming trough. I am closely watching the modeled interactions between these two pieces of energy, as their behaviors will ultimately dictate the development of our potential Nor’easter. International models continue to indicate an increasing likelihood for interactions between the two vorticity maximums (pieces of energy). If the two do come together, a coastal low will develop along a boundary layer expected to setup just off the east coast, resulting in the development of a (potentially major) Nor’easter along the Mid-Atlantic and New England coastlines. Relatively marginal north Atlantic blocking is expected for this timeframe, therefore limiting the probability of interaction between the two pieces of energy. We will not see A classic negative NAO, or 50/50 low typically essential to the development of this particular type of storm. However,it does appear as though a precedent low expected to develop, and push through the Great Lakes region this upcoming Monday-Tuesday will act as somewhat of a block. Therefore, acting as a potentially sufficient enough block to slow the jet stream just enough for interaction between the two pieces of energy. This scenario would result in the development of a coastal low (or Nor’easter) along the Mid-Atlantic/New England coastline. Stay tuned for more information on this potential incoming Nor’easter as I will have updates as soon as new information becomes available!
