SOME THOUGHTS: A BRIDGE TO A UNIFIED QUEBEC I speak often to - TopicsExpress

SOME THOUGHTS: A BRIDGE TO A UNIFIED QUEBEC I speak often to my Francophone friends in Quebec City, Saguenay and Sorel - our discussions are always interesting when it comes to politics. I told them that contrary to the Parti Quebecois’s fear campaign of losing the French language and culture, the Anglophone and Allophone communities almost unanimously agree with the protection of the French language in Quebec. I myself, being bilingual (with English as my first language), always speak French first whenever I can. I support the protection of the French language. But it is all in the approach. The extremist approach of the present day PQ party is deplorable, and the division among Quebecers will continue as long as their party exists (the party that Rene Levesque founded with democratic roots died a long time ago). The polls for the 2014 provincial election are changing for the better, the Liberal Party has taken the lead, but anything can happen on April 7. It is repetitive to say but it is a fact that this election is too important for the future of all Quebecers. The PQ is now quiet about the charter of values and the referendum – the typical song and dance of a PQ leader with losing conditions for a referendum. This should give clear signs to all the Quebecers that there is something wrong with the PQ policies. The people are fed up of the division within our society and we need to find solutions. This campaign has also affected the “domestic product” of business as well. You can thank Monsieur Pierre Karl Peladeau for the high volume of customers switching from Videotron to Bell (I am one of them). I disagree with you Monsieur P.K.P, and as a result I have left my longstanding relationship with your good company Videotron. I would like to thank the employees for their good service they have given me over the years. Unfortunately, the campaigning for all parties have not really addressed the important issues for Quebecers. Every politician (maybe with the exception of Francoise David of Quebec solidare) have skeletons in their closet. I know it’s a long shot, but I am hoping transparency can be the goal of all politicians and political parties. A final message to the politicians of this great province ours: Problems in Quebec on all fronts are piling up and pointing the figure will not get anything done. Practice what you preach, be straight forward if you solve them or not and the people will follow you…once the roads are fixed and the potholes are covered. I always emphasize that the political climate and culture has to change in Quebec. There must be an evolution in the mentality of francophone Quebecers, especially in the rural areas. As they are isolated geographically from Montreal, we all know the PQ has taken advantage in instilling that old fear that Anglos/Ethnics are a threat to their identity. There must be a bridge or a “lien” built to unite the two sides. The idea of nous contre vous must be eliminated by both Anglos and Francophones. Anglophones and Allophones alike should also open up to them directly more somehow as well to show them that there is nothing to be insecure about. We are all Quebecers. Much Love MJ (Mario)
