SPARE SOMETIME AND READ THIS PIECE:A Youngman of 22 has come to my home with a very touching story; He was abandoned by his up to now unknown Mother when he was six months. He was raised in an orphanage called Hope Children’s home in Lugazi and got a Foster Father an old man who lives in Kayanja who gave him the name; Kalema Alex. The home looked after him until 2010 after completing S4 .He was advised to go start life outside the home. He rented a room in Mukono and started doing odd jobs to raise fees to undertake A -Level education. In 2012 as he was travelling from Jinja where he had been to meet a good Samaritan who had offered him money for registration for UNEB examination he the car he was travelling in collided with a Mehta Sugarcane Truck. He was one of the few survivors but the accident left him with a completely shattered left leg. He has undergone several operations but his leg can’t heal. His hip constantly passes out blood and pus and Doctors have recommended a hip replacement surgery. At Mulago he was asked to raise around 2M shillings which he could get. The intervention of the Parish Priest St. Paul earned him an offer to get this surgery from visiting Doctor who will be running a clinic at Kisubi starting next Monday at a cost of 450,000/=. Still Kalema couldn’t raise this money. This is when he started fundraising moving from one house to another in Mukono. People gave him money ranging from 500 – 10,000/= and by the time he reached my home he had raised 390,000/= and had a balance of 60,000/=. After establishing that his story is true and seeing the pain this boy is in, I gave him the balance. But still I asked him, how will you survive in the hospital, who will be taking care of you, what about other costs; this shows that Kalema still needs assistance.
