SSS charges nine NYSC members for certificate forgery. The suspects all pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Department of State Security Service , SSS, has charged nine corps members to court for forgery. The National Youth Service Corps , NYSC, members appeared before an Abuja Magistrate Court on Thursday. They were accused of producing fake degree certificates and transcripts from an Indian University, Manonmamin Sundaranar. According to the SSS, one of the suspects, Agatha Amara, presented herself to Patrick, a mobilization officer at the headquarters of the NYSC, as a graduate of the Indian university. She also presented a fake degree certificate, fake transcript, and fake National Examination Council, NECO, certificate to the official. The SSS said the fake certificates were produced by one Nicholas Eze and Ikechukuwu Frank, who is at large. The agency told the court that it was Mr. Eze who gave Ms. Amara the fake certificates and an old Nigerian international passport with fake Indian visa. Ms. Amara was to pay N150, 000 for the service but had only deposited N70, 000. Investigations also revealed that Mr. Eze also provided fake documents for 30 unqualified persons who were all mobilised for the NYSC; with each person paying or agreeing to pay Mr. Eze between N120, 000 and N150, 000, the SSS said. Mr. Eze, who did his youth service in 2007 with batch number KD/07B/1293 in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, had also presented himself to the NYSC in 2012 and was mobilized with the fake Manonmamian Sundaranar University degree certificate. He was subsequently posted to Anambra with batch no AN/12b/2460, the security agency said. Apart from Mr. Eze and Ms. Amara, the other seven corps members were also accused of similar crimes. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them and were remanded in custody. The case was adjourned to November 25 through 29 by the Chief Magistrate of the court, Rmatu Gulma. -CULLED FROM PREMIUM TIMES
