STUDENTS TAKE THE FIGHT TO BURGLARS Burglary is a crime that can have a dramatic and lasting impact on its victims. Those affected can be left feeling violated, vulnerable, angry and unsafe because someone has entered their home with the single minded aim of stealing from within. The impact can be so extreme that some victims even move as they simply cant live there anymore. Yet statically, almost half of all burglaries could be easily prevented by taking some very easy steps to secure your home, shed or garage. As thieves continue to find new and more resourceful ways of breaking into houses and getting out as quickly as possible, police are also looking for new and innovative ways of making people aware of this problem in a bid to get the public to share this information amongst friends, family and colleagues. This has prompted a group of media students from Franklin College in Grimsby to take up the challenge by working with the Humberside Police Online Engagement Team and Special Sgt Kristopher Weavill, a volunteer police officer, to create two short films highlighting how quickly and easily you could fall foul of a thief. Will Pope, Steven Boden and Bradley Nicholls, all 17 year old first year media students at the college, created and produced the two short films in a bid to try something different which could be easily shared via social media and other online channels as part of an ongoing project between Franklin College and Humberside Police. humberside.police.uk/newsmedia/grimsby-students-take-the-fight-to-burglars
