SULU : I SUPPORT MACHESO REBELS 100% Sulumani Chimbetu says former Macheso band members have his full backing. And it showed at Harare International Airport when the rebels were seen hugging and laughing with Sulu when he returned from his UK tour. “When I started singing some people labelled me a rebel and the same is being said about these ex-Macheso band members. I am actually looking forward to performing with these guys at the July 12 concert in Chitungwiza,” he said. Sulu said he had not yet discussed with Francis Daka if the UK tour was his last dance with the Dendera Kings. “Some of these things, we need to sit down and discuss. We have not talked about the issue yet but I must say we worked together well,” he said. Sulu shared together the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi and Winky D when he performed in Leeds, Leicester and London. While Sulu and Winky D returned on Tuesday, Oliver Mtukudzi remained behind to proceed with his international tour that will see him perform in Canada and the United States. It is, however, the presence of the “rebels” - Obert Gomba and Noel Nyazanda - at the airport that will set tongues wagging in the entertainment circles. The two were spotted chatting and hugging with Suluman before whisking away their man, Francis Dhaka. Sulu said his UK tour was a success with venues filled to capacity. “This time we nailed it. The venues were filled to capacity and the promoters did what we had agreed since day one. There were no hassles whatsoever,” he said. Winky D, who travelled with his full band, concurred with Sulu. “We gave it all and the fans were really appreciative. Some of the fans were not Zimbabweans but they could dance to the music,” said Winky D. Reports coming from the UK say the Zimbabwean trio had a blast of a show in that country. Dubbed the “Big Three”, the tour kicked off in London at the Coliseum Suite in Ilford, on June 28, followed by a performance at StarLite De Venue in Leicester on June 29 and finished at Leeds at the Premier Banqueting/Stoney Court Rock on June 30.
