SYNOPSIS: Happy Thursday! Heres a look at the weather synopsis... ASIA: Japan continues to get hit with sea effect snow on the northern and western coastlines. In addition to the snowfall, strong winds are slamming Hokkaido with gusts up to 101 kilometers per hour in Wakkanai. This setup is expected to start tapering off heading into the weekend. High pressure is providing dry conditions for China and the Korean Peninsula, and temperatures will begin to moderate for the eastern side of China and into South Korea. OCEANIA: Once again, instability provided by the heating of the day is producing rain and storms from Northern Territory into Queensland. A front is also bringing some rain into the southeastern corner of Australia. Drier and calmer weather continues for the rest of the country. Expect the unstable setup to continue this week. Scattered showers and storms continue for New Zealand, especially on South Island, so expect to use those umbrellas into Friday. EUROPE: A series of warm fronts are progressing through western and central Europe, so expect rain and storms to roll through Thursday as the instability increases. A low pressure system that is sitting over Italy is producing very unstable weather for the Balkans, with strong storms possible as the moist air from the Mediterranean moves northward into Greece. Eastern Europe continues to deal with chilly weather with low pressure rolling down the cold air from the north. NORTH AMERICA: An extended front along the Rockies and connected to a low pressure system in Texas will provide for ample opportunity of snow for the mountains and storms for the Southern Plains. Some of the rain will start moving into the western portions of the Deep South. Meanwhile, rain and storms continue along the West Coast of the US as another front pushes in from the Eastern Pacific. Snow is also expected from New England through the Appalachian Mountains. Heavy snow is possible from the upper mid-West into Canada. Hope you have a terrific Thursday wherever you are!
