Sasuke Shimomura is a student from Waseda University in Japan who is here on a one year exchange program (EAP). Read on for his words of inspiration, which will help you overcome most problems which internationals face, and give you a refreshing take on life. On another note, lets given him a bow. Very few face challenges in the manner he has faced them! Almost 100days since I`ve came here…. Time to think about life a little… The most important experience I`ve attained through my study abroad experience so far is to get a glimpse of the idea of what it means to “know the world” I knew I was to be called in name only as one of the members of “Global Leadership Fellows Program” to study abroad from my home university. However, it is something totally different of “knowing that fact” and “being told that fact” of your insufficiency. This is something that I wouldn`t have noticed if I were living in Japan the whole time, but “to live in the world” was way beyond my imagination. Meeting people you would never have the feeling of surpassing, regretting and blaming how inferior you are to others; all of these give you a feeling of losing yourself and you sometimes can`t find meaning in your actions. But as I now acknowledge the fact, that there is a world like this and there are still worlds that I still haven`t experienced, I have to live with it. I can`t just make myself blind to it. “Doing my best wherever I am” has been the fundamental belief I always had within myself, and that will never change. But if I were to add one more thing in respect to my experience of studying abroad so far, I want to have a strong mental that wouldn`t yield to inferiority that I feel toward others. Just think of everything as a new opportunity and feel lucky of being able to encounter it and make the most of it. I think this is far from a true answer, and I even doubt if there is actually one. Still have much to learn… My journey here is quite far from ending. Keep on inspiring me guys!! here you go! please make sure you give a little introduction about him! ****** If you would like to send in an inspring story about yourself, please mail it in to this page! You will be helping a number of internationals around you who are struggling with the same problems. If you would like, we could make your post anonymous.
