Saturday 21st September away vs Milford Pumas Ajax Back to the league this week and very much a game of two halves against a tall team who had been relegated from the Premier Division at end last season. Teams looked pretty evenly matched first 10 minutes after which Liphook slowly gained the ascendancy and started to apply pressure and sure enough on 18 minutes Toby ( TC ) battered his way past tackles and scored. 0-1 Liphook. Ellis blocked well with a Milford player through and with Callum playing one of his best games at the back, time and again coming away with the ball and spraying out passes and Kyle comfortably mopping up most of what came his way, Liphook looked assured. In the closing minutes Connor had a good shot saved by the feet of a tentative Milford keeper and a strong run across the penalty area from Nathan led to a corner but the ball stayed out. Half time a well deserved 0-1 to Liphook and the team playing with the intensity to suggest more was to come. Alas the opening moments of the second half set the scene and Ellis was force to save well and 2 minutes later saw a shot just clear his crossbar. After 5 minutes a rare mistake by Kyle let a player through who advanced on goal and it was 1-1. Liphook seemed to wake up for a short while with a period of territory and pressure with Harry working hard on the right and having some success. Milford were soon back on the ball though and had a goal ruled out for offside. After 20 minutes Connor appeared to put in a typically strong but fair tackle which was unlucky to be called a foul and the ensuing free kick sailed into the far corner of our goal. 2-1 Milford. Shortly after another Milford breakaway, a centred ball and Archie was unfortunate to slide it into his own net. 3-1 Milford. Despite last few minutes of Liphook pressure we were unable to create any real chances and match finished 3-1 to Milford. Somehow the intensity and work ethic of the first half disappeared in the second and a real opportunity to pick up points lost. It’s going to need a tough training session on Wednesday with a home game next week to come against Petersfield !! Man of match – Toby ( TC ) Assists – n/a Goals – Toby ( TC ) (1)
