The Apostle‘s Creed 1. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth. Genesis 1-2 2. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord. John 1:14; Matthew 1:21; Acts 4:12; Mark 1:11 3. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the Virgin Mary. Luke 1:35 4. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was Crucified, Died and was Buried. He ascended into Heaven and is Seated at the Right Hand of the Father Almighty. Matt. 28:19; Acts 1:11; Romans 8:34 7. He will come to Judge the Living and the Dead. Matt. 25:31-36 8. The Agony in the Garden +1st bead-JESUS comes with HIS disciples to Gethsemani: Stay here, while I go yonder and pray, Matt 26:36-37 +2nd bead-Entering the garden with St Peter, St James and St John, JESUS prays My soul is sorrowful unto death Mark 14:34 +3rd bead-JESUS sees the sins of all mankind, whose guilt has taken upon HIMSELF, Mark 14:35 +4th bead-HE sees the wrath of the FATHER which HIS sufferings must appease, Mark 14:36 +5th bead-So great is HIS anguish that HIS sweat becomes as drops of blood falling to the ground, Luke 22:44 +6th bead-An angel appears to HIM from heaven to strengthen HIM, Luke 22:43 +7th bead-FATHER, if it possible, let this cup pass from ME; yet not My will but YOURS be done, Matt. 26:39 +8th bead-Finding disciples asleep: Could you not watch an hour with me? Matt. 26:40 +9th bead-JESUS is betrayed by Judas, Matt. 26:49 +10th bead-FATHER, by the merits of the agony of JESUS in the garden, have mercy on us and on the whole world, Matt. 26:36-46 II. Scourging at the Pillar +1st bead-JESUS is taken before the high priest where HE is falsely, Luke 22:63-64 +2nd bead-The jewish leaders take Jesus before Pilate for only he can impose the death penalty, Mark 15:1-3 +3rd bead-The robber Barabbas is preferred to jews, Mark 15:13-14 +4th bead-Pilate can find no cause on HIM, yet to appease the jews, he ordered JESUS to be scourged, Luke 23:16 +5th bead-The scourge is made of leather thongs to which are attached small sharp bones, John 19:1 +6th bead-JESUS is bound to a pillar and cruelly scourged until HIS body is covered with deep wounds, John 19:1 +7th bead-The LAMB of GOD offers HIS sufferings for the sins of mankind, John 1:29 +8th bead-JESUS suffers so much in HIS Sacred flesh to satisfy especially for sins of the flesh, Isaiah 53:4 +9th bead-The prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, Isaiah 53:5 +10th bead-FATHER, by the merits of JESUS in this painful scourging, have mercy on us and on the whole world, Luke 23:16; John 19:1 III. The Crowning with Thorns +1st bead-Pilate ask Are you a king? Jesus answers I am a KING, but my Kingdom is not in this world. John 18:33; John 18:36 +2nd bead-In the praetorium, the soldiers, place an old purple robe on JESUS in mockery of HIS to be a KING, John 19:2-3 +3rd bead-They fashion a crown out of thorns, and forcefully press it down upon HIS head, John 19:2 +4th bead-In HIS bound hands they place a reed, as a sceptre, in mockery of HIS Kingship, John 19:3 +5th bead-Kneeling before HIM in derision, they spit on HIM, and cry out Hail, King of the Jews, Matt. 27:29 +6th bead-Taking the reed from HIS head they strike HIM on the head, driving more the thorns deeply into HIS scalp, Mark 15:19-20 +7th bead-Pilate brings JESUS before the people, hoping HIS pitful sight will soften them Behold the man John 19:4-5 +8th bead-Their response Crucify HIM! Crucify HIM! John 19:6 +9th bead-Our BLESSED LORD submitted to this terrible humiliation to make repatriation of our pride, John 19:1-7 +10th bead-FATHER by the merits of this humiliation, have mercy on us and on the whole world. John 19:1-7 IV. The Carrying of the Cross. +1st bead-One condemned to death by crucifixion is forced to carry the cross to the place of execution, Luke 23:26-31 +2nd bead-The suffering of JESUS is intense as the cross is laid on HIS bruised and wounded back and shoulder. +3rd bead-Weak and exhausted from loss of blood, lack of food and rest, JESUS falls three times under the cross. +4th bead-JESUS meets HIS afflicted Mother causing untold anguish in the HEARTS of SON and Mother. +5th bead-The countenance of JESUS is disfigured with blood and sweat, with dust and spittle. +6th bead-Veronica wipes HIS face, leaving on her towel the image of countenance. +7th bead-Fearing that JESUS might die on the way, the soldiers force Simon of Cyrene to carry the cross behind JESUS, Luke 23:26 +8th bead-JESUS speaks to weeping women; Weep not for ME, but for yourselves and children, Luke 23:28 +9th bead-If anyone is to be MY disciple, let him take up his cross and follow me, Matt. 16:24 +10th bead-FATHER, by the merits of this painful journey to Calvary, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Luke 23:26-31 V. The Crucifixion and the death of our LORD +1st bead-The hands and feet of JESUS are nailed to the cross infront of HIS afflicted Mother, John 19:25 +2nd bead-FATHER, forgive them for they know not what they do, Luke 23:34 +3rd bead-This day you will be with ME in paradise, Luke 23:43 +4th bead-Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother. John 19:26-27 +5th bead-My GOD, my GOD why have you forsaken me? Mark 15:34 +6th bead-I thirst, John 19:28 +7th bead-It is finished. John 19:30 +8th bead-FATHER, into YOUR hands I commend MY SPIRIT. Luke 23:46 +9th bead-The side of JESUS is pierced with a lance. HIS body is taken down and placed in the arms of HIS Mother, John 19:34-37 +10th bead-FATHER, by the merits of the crucifixion and death of JESUS, have mercy on us and on the whole world. John 19:17-30 Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee to we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray. O God, Whose Only-Begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life: grant, we beseech Thee, that by meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord.
