See, now this is indeed interesting! Rich Barrett at mental_floss drops the 5 Most Interesting Comics of the Week, including our very only Iron Bound by Brendan Leach. He starts by mentioning something that even we didnt really consider: Brendans Pterodactyl Hunters in the Gilded City was a big deal when it came out, and here he is again, barely two years later, with the epic, 252 page Iron Bound. If comics is the worlds slowest and toughest medium (and it is), Brendan is kicking its ass. Barrett (also a pretty darn good cartoonist himself, but hes too modest to mention that here, so we will) loves the tension of following around a guy like Iron Bounds Benny, but sees Brendans 1960 Newark as the trump card of the story. For us, comparing Iron Bound to Lords of Flatbush is the kindest of pettings. For Brendan, the comparison of his art to Gipis surely has him doing that creepy Muppet dance thing he does when hes happy. Speaking of things we hadnt considered, Barret points out that Brendans wild lines make it feel like he was on the scene when it happened. Hes right, but that was never really clear to us. We just thought it looked cool. Thank heavens for the smart folks at mental_floss, and thanks, Rich!
