Self-made is better? The picture we have of ourselves will determine how we interact with others. If we see ourselves as self-made, we will have a tendency to believe that we are better than others. If we see ourselves as victims of society, we will have a tendency to believe that everyone else is better than us, and we will disappear into the shadows. There is another way to view ourselves that at least begins to level the playing field. When we realize that our breath is not something we fully control, that our blood pulsing through our veins is an automatic functioning system that is built to protect us, we are humbled. We have been designed with fail-safe features that we have little control over. We all start out the same, helpless infants. Spiritually, we all start out at odds with the divine from birth. We are hell-bent on destruction. That makes us all equal in the sight of God. But God has a plan. That plan involves the repentance of self-worship and the turning of our lives over to His plan for them. From this view we can see others as people also in need of a savior. We can see others as people that are just as broken as us. But there is a deeper level even than that…
