Sen. Zannah and Sen. Ndume Your excellency assistance Secretary of State Mrs. Linda Thomas-Greenfield On behalf of the citizens of Borno and Yobe states, we the elected members representing them in the Nigerian National Assembly, and other concerned citizens from the area wish to submit this petition to the government and congress of the United States of America. We are aware that at the moment more than at any other time before, the united state is being called upon to address a multiplicity of threats to international peace and security, and to save the lives of millions of people across the globe from misery, suffering and even extinction. We appreciate the position of the United States on global peace and security and the role that it plays in safeguarding human lives, dignity and in far flung places. 2. It is against this backdrop that we the elected members representing the people of Borno and Yobe states of nigeria and other concerned citizens, approach you through this medium to convey to you and through you to your government and congress, the dire and terrible security situation that is existing in our part of the country. For many years now the federal government of Nigeria (FGN) has abandoned us to an uncertain and terrible fate in the hand of boko haram terrorist group and their allies. We have been calling upon the government particularly the president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, to seriously and concertedly address the situation in the northeast of Nigeria with a view to finding a lasting solution to the crises. He has consistently shown his reluctance to do so and indeed his entire government did not do what was required of them up to this moment. The state of emergency that he passed only worsened the situation rather than improve it. Thousands of our people have been killed by both the terrorist and security forces since the declaration of the state of emergency as evidenced by credible reports.
