Sh Hamzah Yusuf in his recent talk about Khilafah/ISIS etc - TopicsExpress

Sh Hamzah Yusuf in his recent talk about Khilafah/ISIS etc mentions the great Imam Al Jaziri in a certain context. In another part of the talk (as discussed below) he mentions that Its important to know that Islam does not need a Khilafah; thats agreed upon, mujma alayh (8:30) and he further mentions that the ulema differed about whether there could be more than one khalif/imam at a given time. I dont quite know which difference of opinion he is referring to, but I presume he is talking about the times of discord etc. I recall reading a quote from Imam al Jaziri and went back to look for it, and found it. Interestingly and amazingly enough, he said exactly the opposite about what is agreed upon by the ulema of Islam. The Arabic is provided in the first comment below. What a telling and amazing quote, from one of the greatest scholars of the last 200 years! The Imams (of the four madhabs: Abu Hanifa, Malik, Shaf’i, Ahmad) - may Allah have mercy on them – all consented that the Imamah (synonymously used with Khilafah) is an obligation, and that the Muslims must appoint an imam who would implement the rites of the deen, and give the oppressed justice against the oppressors, and they agreed that it is not permitted that there be over the Muslims, at any one time, two imams, in agreement or discord (Imam ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Jaziri (1882-1941) [d. 1360 AH], The Fiqh of the Four Schools 5:416.) - Jzk Bro Faraz Nomani https://youtube/watch?v=I-acadw1YWU
