Sharing the process that we follow in order to execute the activity of #ChalkingIndia. 1. We keep a close eye on every motorists who stops at the traffic signal. 2. As soon as someone spits, we run over to them, ensuring that people watch us hurrying towards the spitter. This ensures we grab attention and people take a note of what we are doing. This prevents others from spitting. 3. We circle the spit mark with a circle using the chalk. 4. We then say the following to the spitter with folded hands (like we do Namaskar) in the best possible manner. We need to be very soft while saying this: Hello sir, you have just spit on the road. No one from my home or your home is ever going to clean this up. If you feel that your spitting wont make a difference, then please look at all the other circles that we have had to draw. Irrespective of what has happened today, please do us a favor and never spit again on the road, ever again. We sincerely request you to help us keep our city and country clean. It is our collective responsibility. You and me can help keep the city clean. Thank you. 5. Feel free to translate the above into the language of your choice. We generally use Hindi and when someone doesnt understand, we speak in English or Telugu. 6. When someone litters(plastic, cigarettes, chocolate wrappers etc.) on the road, simply pick up the trash and hand it over to them without any argument. Remind them that road is not the place to dump trash. Keep it in your pocket and go home and throw away. Dont allow people to throw even a matchstick after lighting a cigarette. Promptly return the cigarette butt, gutkha wrappers, chocolate wrappers, plastic covers, anything and everything. 7. At all times, be gentle and kind in your words. Never get into arguments, or any type of foul language. The moment we get aggressive, we are giving the offender a chance to get aggressive. We should remain calm and composed at all times. 8. If you have a traffic policeman nearby, share with him the details of your activity and the purpose. They have been very helpful until now. 9. Always keep a close eye on the people chewing pan masala, gutkha, children eating in cars, people smoking in cars, autos, bikes. 10. Do not confront a person until you have yourself seen them spitting or are 100% sure of their spitting. It can so happen that someone had spit earlier and the traffic moved forward and someone else comes and stands in that place. Be sure not get into an argument. 11. If someone offers to clean their spit, we do not stop them neither do we force them. It is their personal choice whether to clean it or leave it as it is and not to repeat it. Please share this widely so people understand our efforts/activity in a better way. Do tag us along. If you have any doubts or questions, please mention in the comments below. Also share yor suggestions, if any, to improve #ChalkingIndia! Please translate this into your regional languages and share it on your walls. Do tag us along. Thank you and all the best in your efforts.
