It was also no secret that he had two sons with Nelda, nor was it a secret that he did not hold his wife in a place of high regard. She told me that Nick was very proud of his sons with Nelda and did not keep them a secret from his friends and co-workers. His relationship with their mother was not a secret. Nick did not keep her or her sons hidden. It was Rita that nobody knew and from all accounts, Nick spent more time in the city "at work" than he ever did with Rita.
