Shine chairman and Managing Director of leading PR and marketing company Athene Communications, Richard Astle, completed his final challenge of the year at the 5k Santa Dash at Burghley Park, Stamford on Sunday 14th December. The festive race, which saw a record number of 1,178 santas take part, marked his 10th and final Chairman’s Challenge – a mammoth year-long series of challenges, aimed to help raise money for people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. The year has seen him take part in three 10-km runs, including one in Brazil, five half marathons, a 40-mile hike through Derbyshire in 13 hours, and a trek across the Sahara Desert. Over 130 people joined Richard to take part in the race for Shine, including runners from local businesses Businesscoms, Rawlinsons, Royal HaskoningDHV, e4education, Premier Kitchens and Athene Communications. Richard’s fundraising target at the start of the year was £25,000 and, with the support of many ‘challengers’, he has now exceeded this by £10,000, with donations following the 10th challenge tipping the grand total over £35,000. The money will help fund a new Health Hub at Shine’s Peterborough-based Head Office. The brand-new health facility will enhance the lives of many people every year as they overcome the challenges of living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Richard is still taking donations for the Chairman’s Challenge through to 2015. People who would like to donate can visit his Just Giving page W: justgiving/thechairmanschallenge14
