Shopping at Walmart and my daughter had pushed just about EVERY single button I own after repeatedly telling her to stop. (Normally dont let it go that far. I mustve been tired.) So I stopped and gave her a quick spank and reminded her firmly of what it means when Mommy says stop, followed by a kiss on her forehead. In case youre wondering... it means stop. I get done, look up from my now sort of crying child to see two teen kids glaring at me in a very disapproving manner. Great. Just what I needed. Now Im feeling attacked and defensive on top of my already mounting mommy shopping with kids stress. I really didnt need to feel like a horrible mom today. I thought the best thing to do was to just move on and avoid any eye contact before I made an angry remark or mean face or you know... cried or something. So I turned and found myself looking straight into the eyes of a MOPS mom who smiled and asked how my shopping trip was going when she could clearly see the answer was not well. I sighed and looked at her with defeated eyes while I listened to my daughter continue to whimper, now more out of protest than pain, and felt like a complete failure. She gave me a knowing look and said Youre doing great. I just had one of those moments not even 5 minutes ago. I completely empathize with you. Itll be ok. Then she smiled and continued on her way. Wow! Something so simple and it turned my whole trip around. I walked on, head held high, no longer feeling defeated or stressed. I went from feeling judged to accepted in less than a minute. We finished shopping and I was even smiling! What would I have done without that MOPS mom to understand and encourage me? To remind me Im not alone in this whole mom thing? I would never have met her otherwise. MOPS. Seems like such a simple thing and in some ways it is, but its impact is deep and long lasting. So this is a very long winded and huge THANK YOU to all the women involved in making Quincy MOPS be so awesome! I would tag you but Im not sure I even know who you all are. Just know today you were very appreciated by this MOPS mom.
