Simple Thoughts: 6th Sunday of Easter What is your reason for hope? ~ With Psalm 66, we cry out to God with joy for his tremendous deeds and for the works He does for us and in us. Our readings today reveal to us the joy we proclaim in the psalm. They give us reason to hope. In the Gospel, Jesus promises us that His Spirit, the Advocate, will be with us always. Through the Spirit, we are not left orphans, rather, we are connected even more deeply with our God, who now lives in us. In the Spirit, we can still see Jesus working in our lives, and in the lives of those around us. This is our hope. Christ is always with us. Our second reading today challenges us to hold on to, and always be ready to share the hope of Christ. In sharing our hope with others, we continue God’s work, and even more, can cry out with joy for the great things God does. We see this promise revealed in the disciples in our first reading. Christ’s work is continuing through them, bringing joy to all who believe. Those who hear and believe receive the Holy Spirit and in turn, continue God’s work further. This cycle continues in us today. We hope in Christ, who gives us His Spirit so we can be Christ to the world. The Spirit unites us with God here on earth, and we live in the hope of eternal life with Him forever. This is worth sharing! ~ Hold on to “Christ as Lord in your hearts,” our hope, and in the Spirit, let all of us on earth cry out to God with joy: “Alleluia, He is risen!” Scripture Reference (Cycle A): 1st: Acts 8:5-8, 14-17 Response: Psalm 66 2nd: 1 Peter 3:15-18 Gospel: John 14:15-21
