Since Blackpool Music Festival 2013 I have enjoyed everything I - TopicsExpress

Since Blackpool Music Festival 2013 I have enjoyed everything I have done to promote the musicians and music scene in this area. So it with great sadness that I have to make this post today. I stand accused by a respected Blackpool Businessman of doing nothing to promote and help the musicians of Blackpool but everything to promote myself at their expense and to be honest I am devastated at this accusation, well actually accusations because not only has he said it to me in messages but he has also posted it online for all to see. In light of this I have looked back on the last 15 months to see what I have, or have not done, in the area. Nine of the twelve articles I have written for AltBlackpool have been about local musicians or music events. They can all be read here: altblackpool.co.uk/author/richard-shirt/ On this page there are 74 albums that cover local musicians or local music events. There has been in excess of 10,000 images taken, loaded, culled and edited (where required) in order to produce the photographs that are seen. My twitter account has numerous tweets about local musicians and local events. I have covered the following events: Blackpool Music Festival 2013 & 2014 Dinkey Donkey Do at Fort San Antone DonkeyFest at The Shovels Eaglefest at the Golden Eagle March of the Mods at Blackpool Cricket Club Linkstock Uncle toms Birthday Bash The entire weekend launch of April Keens debut EP Solace HMV Saturdays and the HMV Christmas Party Along with countless other gigs across Blackpool, St. Annes, Cleveleys, Poulton and Preston, all local bands. I have travelled to Manchester on more than one occasion to follow a local band who were playing there. All of this at my own expense. After 30+ years in and around Blackpool I dont actually live in the immediate area anymore. For me to come to these events is a 40+ mile round trip, something I am happy to do to see the fantastic musicians and hopefully get a few shots for them to use to promote themselves. I freely admit that not all of my images are brilliant, I do this in the spare time I have from my full-time job. Some of them are good, some of them have been used in event/gig posters. I have never charged for any of this, all I have ever asked is that credit is given in line with the pinned post on this page. I would like to think that I have done at least a little to help, if I havent and my accuser is actually correct then please say so and I will stop immediately and let you go about your business without my camera lens being stuck in your face.
