Sisters you have to seek Knowledge too!!! In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon His noble prophet and messenger Muhammad, his family and companions. As for what follows; Al-Haafidh Ibn Al-Jowzi[1], may Allaah have mercy upon him, stated in his book ‘Ahkaam As-Nisaa’ (Rulings pertaining to Women): “The third chapter regarding the obligation of women seeking knowledge; The woman is a responsible being just like a man. Therefore, seeking knowledge of the obligatory matters of the religion is binding upon her so that she can be upon certainty when performing them. If she has a father, brother, husband or mahram (guardian) to teach her them, i.e. the obligatory matters of the religion, and how to perform them properly, then that is sufficient for her. However if she wasn’t one who learned and asked questions, then if she is can find a woman to teach her then she should do that and if not she should learn from elderly learned men but not in seclusion with them and she should stick to the mandatory amount (of knowledge needed). Then whenever a problem arises in her religion she asks about it and shouldn’t feel shy for indeed Allaah isn’t afraid or shy of the truth.” Footnotes: [1] He is ‘Abdur Rahman ibn ‘Ali ibn Ja’far Al-Jowzi a famous hadith scholar born in the city of Baghdad in the year 1114 CE and grew up studying under many prominent scholars of his time including his uncle, Muhammad ibn Nasir Al-Baghdadi, who was a scholar of Hadith, Fiqh and grammar.
