So I am driving through Indiana on business and check into the hotel. Not wanting to flop into the room I grabbed a brochure from the front desk about a local non-profit garden. I stopped by the vendor I am here to see to make sure I knew where they were located for my appt tomorrow. Then I swung by the garden just in time to see a large marching band going in and I thought.......cool just in time for an outdoor concert! Wrong, they had just locked the gate and the couple of hundred band members were there for a photo shoot. Relentless, I knocked on the garden gates and a kind woman after hearing my story about my background offered to let me in as long as I didnt interrupt the area where they were shooting photos. I said deal and made a donation of twice their entrance fee for a total admission price of $10 :) since she was so helpful and it was well worth it. After driving through Chicago traffic and five hours of listening to Amazon music I was ready for a peaceful walk. This garden is outstanding especially for a very small town in middle America or anywhere for that fact. The lighting was not ideal for my iPhone and I didnt have my 35 mm digital with, but you will get the idea that these are outstanding gardens. And they are working on a Japanese garden. So I guess the lesson we should all take away from this is......when visiting anywhere on the road.....see if there is a local garden to visit......you may be pleasantly surprised :)
