So ever since LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling got banned for life, there are some grumbling that his First Amendment rights have been violated. To which NewsOne Contributor Michael Arceneaux writes: Do not confuse free speech with showing my *ss everywhere and enjoying life without any consequences. That is not how free speech works. Free speech is the right to say whatever you want, but there have been certain limitations, and even if there werent, the First Amendment is not a get-out-of-culpability pass. I dont know what planet some people live on, but your words matter, especially if youre a business owner that depends heavily on things like publicity, and well, common decency. Donald Sterling being pushed out of the league for his bigoted remarks going viral is not an accosting of the First Amendment. If anything, its the First Amendment and capitalism tag teaming Sterlings own stupidity. You made racist remarks about a business whose model deals primarily on Black labor and a good relationship with the public, which in turn resulted in you being investigated and subsequently punished. Do you think Sterlings First Amendment rights were violated? newsone/3007922/donald-sterling-and-the-first-amendment-fallacy/
