So everybodys estimate process is a little different, I - TopicsExpress

So everybodys estimate process is a little different, I understand. We just did an estimate for a house in Waltham. 6 rooms basement attic and garage. We walked thru the house, we are old school , and wrote down on paper with a pencil everything in the house. The details are significant. Not down to pencils and pens but number of boxes sizes and pieces of furniture and the miscellaneous stuff in between we refer to as chowdA. Our customer calls and says they are going with another mover who was cheaper, not the cheapest because she thought they were scamming her. I consider the other two unnamed movers to be reputable competition, with good reviews and results. So we asked if we could compare our estimate to company number two. Customer says sure I liked you best and you were more thorough than the other two. Included with the estimate is a copy of her potential inventory. Company number twos inventory was neat modern done on a tablet or Ipad generic listings checked of as the estimator ran thru the house. The list was about 2/3 of what we listed. They seemed to have missed the basement, attic and garage. Their weight estimate is at least 2000 lbs short of ours. Dollar for Dollar we are within two hours of their estimate, but we say the load needs two trucks they say it will fit on one. The disclaimer at the bottom of their estimate says that the estimate only covers what is listed on the inventory. Any additional items which may cause the job to run over estimate are the responsibility of the customer and will be charged accordingly. I know this disclaimer is there for protection of the company, I like it I understand the need. If you are going to make a customer sign the disclaimer you should at least make sure you listed everything in the house, including the basement, attic and garage. We booked the customer with a not to exceed $$$$!
