So, here are our heroes or villains (always depends on the final result): GK: Buffon (Juventus), Perin (Genoa), Sirigu (Paris St. Germain); DF: Abate (Milan), Barzagli (Juventus), Bonucci (Juventus), Chiellini (Juventus), Darmian (Torino), De Sciglio (Milan), Paletta (Parma); MF: Aquilani (Fiorentina), Candreva (Lazio), De Rossi (Roma), Marchisio (Juventus), Thiago Motta (Paris St. Germain), Parolo (Parma), Pirlo (Juventus), Verratti (Paris St. Germain); FW: Balotelli (Milan), Cassano (Parma), Cerci (Torino), Immobile (Torino), Insigne (Napoli). Few thoughts. 1) Deeply sorry for Giuseppe Rossi, however he was too long sidelined by an injury and in a short tournament you need people who are fit and, as we say in Italian in palla (meaning confident with a competitive game since a while). Therell be another chance for him, I am sure. 2) Verratti-Insigne-Immobile, I know my Pescara fan friend Fausto is very happy. This trio has done wonders in Serie B at Pescara 3 years ago under Zdenek Zeman. True they have little international experience, but theres a lot of talent here. Frank Liivak has trained with Insigne and can tell about him for sure. Otherwise, just check the stuff he can do on YouTube. 3) Cerci deserved it for the great season with Torino. 4) the Juventus-based defence poses questions as they havent proved unbeatable in the European campaign. 5) I know Abate and De Sciglio rise both more than one eyebrow (especially Abate), however were really short in the full back roles. Additionally, Prandelli wanted to be consistent with the recent past. 6) God Bless Gianluigi Buffon Am I happy about these call-ups? Overall yes. Maybe were missing a big and tall striker like Luca Toni, however its very hard to choose which of those to leave home (and anyway Toni was not even in the longer list). Now the countdown begins!
