Happy Martin Luther King Day! I know to some this is a very important day, & to others its another reason to complain about, why dont we have a white history month? To my close friends who I indulge with my way of thinking youll know that I am a die hard conservative born & raised... &, I still find pride in this day. Why? Simple: A man stood for what he believed in. He led this nation with his dream. He made a change in how people view freedom, and what it means to have true equality. He was a very intelligent man, & a great leader/role model for all. After all, if you dont stand for something youll fall for anything. However, I dont support entitlement. I dont support thinking the world owes you everything handed to you on a silver platter. You owe the world to make it better place. You owe it to the world to live up to the standards our forefathers dreamed of, & fought hard to protect, & to earn. People get carried away with what is owed, when it should be, what can I give? We defiantly have tainted hands soiling our proud history, & legacies. I dont think equality is totally free yet, but I hope one day well look back on the history books when it is, & be proud of what we did to stand up for our rights. Slightly on to something new: The reason I majored in what I did was to break the barriers between minorities. I remember sitting at a Christmas party in the middle of Mexico, & hardly being able to communicate with anyone. Watching with my heart at how proud they were of their traditions, how different they were from my own. I listened to them in my broken Spanish speak of how proud they were, & sharing what they could about their land, their history. I spoke in English with this elderly man of the changes he wished to see in his country. It was in that instant I fell in love with the world all over again. Everyone has past worth remembering, but worth moving forward from. Everyone has something to fight for. I am proud of what Martin Luther King JR. fought for. May our nation remember his sacrifices on this day, & together, forward, together as we embrace them.
