So here we are again Kerry Crusaders , another year, new targets, new goals and most of all a new beginning. We have had a great year with some super achievements in all levels of running, from the beginners finishing the couch to 5k to the large group who conquered Dublin City Marathon, we have had numerous people finish multi marathons, half marathons, 10ks and 5ks and the odd Double marathon thrown in for good measure and I truly cant remember a race where we all didn’t give 100% to finish. We fought the pain, we soldiered through the thoughts of the dreaded Mr Negative, we kept on going, all of which the kids we run for do EVERY SINGLE DAY. So this year we will go even further and do it all again but even better, even stronger and with even more effort, all of the time remembering the kids, who we all need to help a little and make their lives a little easier. When we ran everyday im sure as I did, we all noticed things along the roads and streets that kept us entertained and motivated and by doing these events, these things stick in our minds. These thoughts are memories that don’t fade away but form what is part of our soul and our passion for running. When we return, and we do return, to the roads after a hard run , we can find it tough to have a will to push on. This is where these memories help to teach us how to crush that barrier and just simply run for fun. All the events that we took part in throughout the year were so well represented by the group of ever increasing travelling crusaders that not only did we become known, but we became unforgettable!!! Whenever a crusader crossed the line, there was a hand to shake and said well done, there was a shoulder to lean on to catch your breath and have a good cry, there was a person to hug and celebrate together , there was a voice to talk to and share the war story, simply there was a friend and all this added up to and belonged to someone special, a friend and a team mate, a Kerry crusader. We had people finish in stile with a 400 metre sprint, we had people who crossed the line walking like a chicken on a bad day, we had people who shed a tear of 2 crossing that matt and we had people who ran arm and arm with their friends or families and enjoyed the moment. But we also had people who didn’t managed to finish, who did the training we all did, who eat the right foods, did the right exercises but still didn’t cross that line and these where times that I remember the most. Not for the wrong reason thou but more for what we as crusaders are all about, the support that was there to help keep these people going in the days and weeks after.. This is what makes me proud to wear the jersey and call myself a crusader!! Hats off to those who had the courage to get up and go again. So lets work together again this year, let the country know who we are, why we run like we do, why we want to run like we do but mostly why Not.... Heres to another great year, hope to see ye all at training very soon, all levels welcome from starters to seasoned runners, from walkers to joggers to crawlers, no matter who you are, your very welcome at the kerry crusaders. Happy 2015 everyone.
