So humbled! The presence of the Holy Spirit rested upon me today at Union in a way that seemed to allow me to feel his heart of intercession. We considered a single verse Luke 23:34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing. His example is beyond my understanding here. His submission to the Father’s will eludes me. I’m not sure if it is altogether outside of my reach our if I’ve just not yet attained to this depth of submission. My lips tremble and my spirit shutters - It’s as if I I begin to withdraw at the thought of such a sacrifice. In Gethsemane, He prayedMy Father, Here, again, in this, the first of his seven expiring cries, it is Father. This prayer to His Father was not for himself. Christ does not say, ”I forgive them—that is taken for granted that He did and does—He seems to lose sight of the fact that they were doing any wrong to Himself. He loses sight of Himself. Losing sight of self - The birthplace of all forgiveness. It would have been excusable, in my mind, if his first, and even his last prayers, if He were to pray for his own support yet we see Him plead for others. History had never witnessed anything like this before or since. Wounds so fresh that the pinging of the hammer against the nail is still wringing. With each wound He empties Himself of what He contains. Christ does not simply pray - His very nature is prayer. This prayer marks the beginning of His priesthood. Now forever He lives to Intercede!!! MY JESUS - YOU ARE EVERYTHING TO ME! Have a blessed resurrection day! Pastor Steve
