So just a little update on Gary and his surgery. We had a little scare this morning when Gary woke up with blurred vision in his right eye. Given that the incision is next to the carotid artery we mediately contacted the neurosurgeon who ordered an ultrasound of the left and right carotid arteries. We then followed up with a trip to the optometrist to rule out any bleeding behind the eye or detached retina neither of those were the case but he does have decreased vision in the right side. We are waiting word on the results of the ultrasound and will proceed as the doctor recommends. Other than that his recovery has been fairly smooth but the medic in me is still concerned because of possible blood clots plaque buildup or number of other things that could go wrong at this juncture. I did mention that it was a cheap escape attempt to not have to buy me dinner on our anniversary so I took him to eat before we went home and now he is sleeping peacefully because he had avoided pain medication all day until we had a better understanding of the situation. I feel confident this is just a small bump in the road and everything will be normal once we get a call from the doctor. A big thanks to everyone that has called sent an email or cards he really does appreciate everything that everyone has done as do I.
